Blues Season in Weld County

Story by Jennifer Finch

It’s almost that time of year again when Weld County gets a wonderful case of the blues! Symptoms include excitement, the need to dance and the overwhelming desire to enjoy world-class blues music right here in northern Colorado.

The Greeley Blues Jam will kick off Friday June 8, 2018, with free family-friendly performances on the 9th St. Plaza in downtown Greeley from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. But that is just to whet your appetite. The fun officially gets started on Saturday, June 9, with 12 hours of back-to-back-to-back performances on the two Blues Jam stages in the Island Grove Arena.

This year’s exciting line-up includes: Mojomama, Dany Franchi, Victor Wainwright & the Train, Danielle Nicole, Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts, Chris Daniels & the Kings with Freddi Gowdy, The Blues DoGS with special guest Dave Beegle & friends, the Otis Taylor Band, and Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters.

The Saturday event will also include the “Blues 101 Stage” sponsored by the Colorado Blues Society. Designed for kids to learn more about this genre of music, the “Blues 101 Stage” is sure to entertain and educate audiences by introducing them to young blues performers from across the country. If you get there early, you might even receive a free harmonica provided by Mineral Resources.
“It ain’t nothing but a party” is the motto of the event, and we’re sure you will have the time of your life here, whether you are new to the genre or if the blues runs through your veins!
